Labiaplasty Conveniently located to serve Atlanta and Fulton

Labiaplasty (sometimes called Labioplasty) is the cosmetic contouring and reduction of an enlarged female labia majora and/or labia minora. Labiaplasty is one procedure of a growing number of female genital cosmetic surgeries which include vaginal rejuvenation, clitoral hood reduction, and vaginal tightening procedures.

Why Do Women Get Labiaplasty?

Women typically get labiaplasty to improve the appearance of their genitals. The labia can become enlarged during puberty, after pregnancy, with massive hormonal changes or after chronic manipulation (either medical or sexual). Sometimes the enlargement is unilateral. In most cases, the labia is enlarged bilaterally but often asymmetrical.

If enlarged, the folds of the labia can become painful from chronic skin fold infections. Additionally, the labia can become embarrassingly visible in conforming slacks or exposed with swimwear. The clothes can pinch the excessive skin causing discomfort.

With a labial reduction, women often report increased sexual pleasure. Discomfort is relieved. The appearance is returned back to its normal anatomical shape.

The Procedure

Labiaplasty surgery usually takes between one and two hours. To begin the surgery, anesthesia is administered. This can either be general anesthesia or a combination of local anesthesia and sedation.

Very small incisions are then created. Either the wedge technique or the trim technique can be used.

In the wedge technique, a wedge-shaped section of skin is removed. In the trim technique, excess skin tissue is specifically trimmed from the outer edges of the labia.

Excess fatty tissue will also be removed during the surgery. Once all changes have been made, the incisions are closed with sutures.

Labiaplasty Recovery

Once you have returned home after the procedure, you will need to rest and recover as your tissues heal. It will be necessary to take around two to five days off from work. You must avoid strenuous activities for around three weeks. Sexual intercourse must be avoided for three to six weeks.

There will be a degree of bruising and swelling in the region. These will fade over time. Tampons must not be used for around 10 days, but pads can be used during this time. Thongs or g-strings should not be worn for around six weeks.
