Ear Pinning & Reshaping Conveniently located to serve Atlanta and Fulton
Ear pinning, or otoplasty, is a procedure used to reshape prominent ears. Patients who are unhappy with the appearance of their ears benefit from ear pinning in Atlanta at Jeffords Plastic Surgery. Dr. Keith Jeffords, a board-certified plastic surgeon, has years of experience with a wide variety of facial procedures.
Which Ear Issues Can Be Corrected?
Ear prominence is an issue that is commonly treated using otoplasty. There are three regions that may contribute to ear prominence. In the upper 1/3 of the ear, a patient might lack congenital folds in the cartilage. In the middle 1/3 of the ear, the concha (bowl of the ear) might be enlarged. In the lower 1/3 of the ear, the cartilage and ear lobe might be excessive.
Besides protruding ears, there are a variety of other ear problems that can be helped with surgery. These include: “lop ear,” when the tip seems to fold down and forward; “cupped ear,” which is usually a very small ear; and “shell ear,” when the curve in the outer rim, as well as the natural folds and creases, are missing. Surgery can also improve large or stretched earlobes, or lobes with large creases and wrinkles.
To get a good concept of how this procedure can reshape the ears, look at the ear pinning before and after photos in our gallery. This will help to develop realistic expectations, which are vital for every plastic surgery procedure.
What Is Ear Reshaping Like?
Otoplasty (which means ear molding or ear surgery) is tailored for each individual. In children, the operating room is appropriate. For most adults, this procedure can be performed under local anesthesia in the office. Incisions are made behind the ear. Cartilage is bent or trimmed. The adult patient can interact with our surgeons to achieve their desired shape.

Recovery After Otoplasty
For best results, follow the instructions of Dr. Jeffords during your otoplasty healing process. Bandages will be in place after surgery and will be removed around one week after the ear pinning and reshaping procedure. Keeping your head elevated during recovery is vital for reduction in swelling and bruising.
While your ears are healing, it will be important to be very careful with them. Wearing button-down shirts during recovery will help to avoid potential ear-related trauma. Avoiding sleeping on your side is recommended, and patients should not play any sports until healing is complete.
Ear Pinning Cost
Otoplasty surgery is generally cosmetic in nature, and because of this, its price is not usually covered by health insurance providers. Ear pinning cost is dependent on the techniques employed, the amount of time it takes to perform the procedure, and other factors like the type of anesthesia used. CareCredit and Prosper Healthcare Lending are financing options that we provide.
